Dance Dance Revolution is a video game where the player stands on a platform or a Dance Dance Revolution metal pad, that has four arrows on it: left, right, up and down; they tap these arrows with their feet by following corresponding arrows on a screen in front of them while they are flashing along with the beat, or rhythm, of a song.
With the home versions of the Dance Dance Revolution game a soft pad is normally what is included and while most people feel that it is good for those that are just starting out, the more serious you become the harder it is for the soft pads to stay in place. They are normally made out of pretty lightweight material and that causes it to slip around quite a bit and it is not always easily discernible exactly where the sensors are in the soft pads making it easier for a misstep to be registered. This causes most players to prefer the Dance Dance Revolution metal pad.
One advantage to using the Dance Dance Revolution hard pad is that they are heavy enough to avoid sliding around like the soft ones. The hard pads also have larger buttons or arrows so that when you tap them with your feet while dancing there is not any questions as to whether you hit the sensor or not and if the step will be registered correctly.
Many of the players that switch from the soft pad to the hard metal pad have noticed a significant increase in their scores and that the faster songs were much easier to perform since there was no slipping and sliding of the pad. For them, having what they consider to be the proper equipment made all the difference in the world. Of course the Dance Dance Revolution metal pad is rather big and bulk, it obviously is not made for folding up and traveling with it. But, if you intend to use it mostly at home then it has been highly recommended that you do, indeed, switch to the harder pad.
Many people may not think that having a soft pad affects their scoring but once they use the harder pad, much like the ones in the actual arcades, they do find that it really does make a difference. While the pads made out of plastic are cheaper, the Dance Dance Revolution metal pad will make a huge difference if you are serious about your scores.
