Ballet Dance Shoes and Your Life Long Dream of Dancing Ballet

Adults who want to be ballet beginners may have yearned to get their feet into ballet dance shoes since childhood. If this is you, or if you did take dance classes early in life but had to stop for some reason, take heart. Feeling that you are too old, too fat, too stiff, too – whatever! – are all conditions that classical dance study improves. It is a good bet that others in your ballet class – or future ballet class – feel as self-conscious as you might.

“I am too old to take ballet”. Can you still get up and go to work or take a walk or water your yard or swim a couple of laps? No medical condition that you don’t understand and are treating properly? Do not be intimidated. Get on the computer and check your local dance studios for adult beginner (or teen, they are often combined) classes.

“I am too fat and flabby”. Maybe that is something that does not feel good, or it is the picture of yourself in the usual dance wear – tights, leotard, the ascetic look. Many dance academies are somewhat forgiving with adult beginners – and will allow sweat pants, baggy T shirts, dance skirts, or variations on the kind of cover-ups that leave students feeling less exposed.

But bear in mind that the better the teacher can see your posture and core area, the faster you will start feeling long and lean. You need corrections for your basic ballet positions.

“I am too stiff to do ballet”. The warm up of a ballet barre/class allows you to benefit greatly from good stretching exercises. You will learn how to stretch properly from time to time in class.

You can also learn a safe at-home stretching routine that will improve your full body range of motion well into your old age. And improve your ballet technique.
